About Harriet Tyce
Tyce practised as a criminal barrister for nearly a decade before becoming a published novelist. She later completed the University of East Anglia’s MA in creative writing, specialising in crime fiction. That professional path brings the courtroom and the work of telling a persuasive story into the same writing life.
Her debut appeared in 2019, and her fiction has become a regular presence on the Sunday Times bestseller lists. Wildfire published her fifth novel, Witch Trial, in 2026. It centres on a murder case involving teenagers and the difficult task of deciding what to believe about a death. Readers who enjoy legal suspense can follow both the crime and the judgements people make around it.
The pull of a Tyce conversation is not simply the answer to a mystery. It can be the anger, fear or loyalty that lets a character keep a secret, and the way a thriller makes you suspect someone you initially trusted. You can come with a favourite book in mind and listen for the choices behind its tension, without turning a session into a search for plot clues.
Where to start with their books
Blood Orange
A barrister defending her first murder case is struggling with secrets in her own life, while her client wants to plead guilty. This is the place to begin if the collision between professional judgement and personal danger attracts you to Tyce.
It Ends at Midnight
An Edinburgh New Year’s Eve party brings old friends together as the past threatens to turn a celebration into a night of revenge. Choose this for the tension of a confined social gathering where the people know more about each other than they admit.
A Lesson in Cruelty
Anna is leaving prison, Lucy wants her professor’s attention, and Marie has lived too long under someone else’s rules. Their separate desires feed into a story of lies and a dead body, offering a different route into Tyce’s psychological suspense.

Plan your trip
If keeping a thriller’s ending intact is important to you, finish the book before the outing or ask the organiser about spoilers. A crime festival can make a good shared trip for friends with different favourites: compare the books over a meal, then choose one panel you both want to hear.
Leave time between sessions to get to the next room without rushing. Bring only the books you want to carry for the day, and check any signing information before making a signed copy the main purpose of the trip.
